The role of social capital in sustainable development of the neighborhood

Social capital, as one of the most important factors and executive arms in any country, has a great role in the sustainable development of any region, city and neighborhood. Therefore, dealing with different aspects of social capital has become very important in urban development studies. Social capital is the way people interact with each other, the way and extent of their participation in civil affairs and their common beliefs and values and it can have a significant effect in reducing time and economic and social costs. In connection with the development of a neighborhood with the approach of sustainable urban development, in new models, the micro perspective based on social engineering replaces the macro view. In the meantime, the neighborhood as the primary core of the city's formation has received more and more attention from urban planners and managers. This means that the neighborhood-based approach, in which the policy-making, planning and management approach is based on a bottom-up approach, has been replaced by a macro and top-down approach. The aim of this study; investigating the role that the category of social capital can create in local sustainable development. In order to achieve this goal, a descriptive-analytical method has been used. The results of this research show that the role of social capital in sustainable urban development and especially urban neighborhoods is very impressive.
