Advancements in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Prenatal Diagnosis: A Case Report of Revolutionizing High-Risk Pregnancy Care

Background: High-risk pregnancies necessitate early and accurate detection for optimal maternal-fetal care. Recent advancements in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) and prenatal diagnosis, such as non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), cell-free DNA testing, and prenatal genetic screening, have shown promise in revolutionizing high-risk pregnancy management.Case Presentation: We present the case of a ۳۲-year-old obese prim gravida at ۲۰ weeks of gestation, with a history of anxiety. The patient was referred to our high-risk obstetric clinic due to concerns regarding potential pregnancy complications. Upon evaluation, she underwent NIPT, which revealed an increased risk of trisomy ۱۸. Subsequent cell-free DNA testing confirmed the diagnosis. Prenatal genetic screening using whole exome sequencing identified a rare genetic abnormality associated with a high-risk pregnancy.Conclusion: This case report illustrates the transformative impact of MFM advancements in high-risk pregnancy care. The integration of NIPT, cell-free DNA testing, and prenatal genetic screening enabled early detection, accurate diagnosis, and personalized management of this high-risk pregnancy. Timely interventions, including counseling and medical support, were initiated, optimizing outcomes for both the expectant mother and fetus.
