چکیده مقاله:

Removal of dye pollutants produced from industrial wastewater has become a major concern of theenvironmental engineers. In this study, bentonite clay was modified by HDTMA surfactant for anefficient adsorption of dye from industrial wastewater. The characterization of the modified-clay wasperformed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an X-Ray energy dispersionspectrometer (EDAX), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The effect of operationalparameters such as pHsolution, initial concentration and adsorbent dosage on the removal efficiency ofdye from aqueous solution were examined. Adsorption isotherm models were evaluated to determinethe adsorption mechanism. The characterization results showed that bentonite clay was successfullymodified by CTAB. The maximum dye adsorption efficiency of ۹۰% by modified clay (۸ fold more thanclay with our modification) was recorded at the optimal conditions of pH = ۵, initial concentration = ۵۰mg/l and adsorbent dosage = ۰.۸ g/L. Based on the isotherm adsorption modeling, the Langmuir model(qm = ۷۷ mg/g, KL = ۰.۲۸ mg/g, R۲ = ۰.۹۸۴) showed better match with the experimental data incomparison with Freundlich model (qm = ۷۲, KF = ۲۱, n = ۲.۴, R۲ = ۰.۹۵۴) which ondicates that theadsorption mechanism was physically and monolayer
